The Proverbs 31 Woman, Verses 21-23

Published October 5th, 2018 by Ccwestside

"She is not afraid of the snow for her household:
for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land."

The first thing I notice about these verses are the first 4 words: SHE IS NOT AFRAID. She doesn’t forecast a fearful future—no laying awake at night worrying about all the, “what ifs.” And why doesn’t she? What is it about this “ideal woman” that enables her to not be afraid? We see that she’s not afraid of the snow for her household—the coming storm, the cold, the hard or new season ahead—whatever it is that causes us fear—because she’s prepared. She and her household are clothed with scarlet. As Christian women, we are clothed in scarlet. We are covered by the blood of Jesus. We are daughters of the King. We are HIS. He loves us and He has not given us a Spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Tim. 1:7

I think that perhaps one reason why this “ideal woman” can do so many creative things effectively and efficiently is because she is not wasting her energies, time and thoughts worrying and fretting. She rests in the Lord and wakes ready to put her all into the tasks before her, knowing that Jesus is Lord over our days. We serve the King of Kings! She rests on the promises of God as her tapestry or blanket over her life and all she does. Her husband is known for having a Godly wife. His home life enables him to be a successful man of influence and serve the Lord.

Years ago, when the Lord moved our family from California to New York, as we were praying and seeking Him about the move, He used many things to confirm it to us. There was one distinct verse He used to solidify His voice. Proverbs 20:4 says, “The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” The cold and the snow were a hold-up for us on moving here from sunny, southern California. We “feared” for the cold and the unknowns of a future in a new place. The only thing we really needed to “fear” (as in reverential fear of the Lord) was NOT being in the Lord’s will— for all her household is clothed in scarlet and His tapestry of Love is over us and with us wherever we go.

Francesca Battistelli’s, “The Breakup Song,” came on the radio in the car today and and it was a sweet little reminder of how “breaking up with fear” enables us to be so much more!

“She is not afraid of the snow for her household.”

“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.” Isaiah 61:10
